50 state guides

2026 paycheck calculator by state

Every state guide runs the same engine on that state’s own published brackets, standard deduction, exemptions and payroll assessments — each one sourced and dated rather than averaged into a national approximation.

What differs between these 50 guides

Federal income tax and FICA are the same wherever you work. Three things are not, and they are the reason a state page exists at all:

What varies between state paycheck calculators
What variesStates
Charges no tax on wage income9
Own brackets, deduction and exemptions41
A payroll assessment beyond income tax — disability, paid leave, transit14

The 9 that levy nothing on wages are Alaska, Florida, Nevada, New Hampshire, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington, and Wyoming. That does not make them cheaper to live in — it moves the cost to sales, property and excise tax, none of which a paycheck calculator can see.

Rules were reviewed through 2026-08-09. Each guide states its own sources and review date, and a jurisdiction whose data has not been verified is held back rather than estimated — which is why this list is 50 rather than 51.

Common questions

How do I find the paycheck calculator for my state?

Every jurisdiction this site models has its own page in this family, each using that state's own brackets, deductions and payroll assessments rather than a national average. Pick the state you work in, since that is generally the state that taxes the income.

Why does the same salary give different take-home pay by state?

Federal tax and FICA are identical everywhere, so the entire difference is state income tax and any state payroll assessment. Some states levy no wage income tax at all, some use one flat rate, and some use graduated brackets with their own deductions.

Do these include city or county tax?

Not in the statewide profile. Local income tax is modelled separately for the jurisdictions this site has verified rates for, because most states have none and applying one by default would overstate the deduction for most readers.
