Common questions
How do I convert an hourly wage to an annual salary?
Multiply the hourly rate by hours worked per week, then by weeks worked per year. These pages use 40 hours across 52 weeks, which is 2,080 hours, as the full-time baseline. Fewer hours or unpaid weeks reduce the annual figure proportionally.
Is 2,080 hours the right number for a year?
It is the standard full-time convention and what these pages use, but it assumes every week is worked and paid. Paid holiday is already inside it; unpaid leave is not. If you are paid for fewer weeks, scale the annual figure by the weeks you are actually paid for.
Does this include overtime?
No. These conversions treat every hour at the base rate. Overtime is paid at a premium and is taxed as ordinary wages, so real annual pay in a job with regular overtime will exceed the figure shown here.
